I have notoriously dry and sensitive skin. I've been using a well-known brand of moisturiser for many years, it's expensive and it leaves my skin soft and hydrated and more importantly, my stupidly sensitive skin doesn’t react to it. I was scared to switch to a different product, well, because if it ain’t broke don’t fix it, right? Wrong! When I first became interested in natural products, I decided to take a look at my trusted moisturiser and research the ingredients. There were a lot of ingredients, they were certainly not natural and, it turns out, not all necessary or good for my skin.

So, this was when I started thinking about oils. Why would I switch to a natural oil on my face? I was worried that an oil would make my face, well oily, and who wants that?

I looked at the natural oils, I looked at their ingredients, there is only one main ingredient, the oil itself. Oils that naturally contain vitamins and essential fatty acids, oils that are natural moisturisers, which do not contain any man-made chemicals. Oils that don't make your skin greasy! Oils that help balance your skin's sebum production, making it less greasy. Oils that have, often for hundreds of years, been successfully used to improve skin condition and appearance. Oils that do not cost the earth. I had no idea there were so many oils and that different oils had different compositions that had different effects on the skin. It was just down to me to find the perfect oil for my skin type.

Challenge accepted! I did my research, I knew a needed an oil rich in Oleic Acid, an Omega 9 fatty acid for my dry skin. I also knew I’d need something fast absorbing and lightweight as I’m prone to break outs if my skin gets too oily. I only tried 3 oils before I found my match. I nearly gave up when my face started to break out but I was determined to find the perfect oil. And I did when I tried Organic Sweet Almond Oil. It ticked all the boxes and it’s a third of the price of my old moisturiser and my skin has never looked better! Result!

So, if you are considering using a plant oil in your skincare routine, there are a couple of things to consider. Do your research. Find out what skin type you have, and which essential fatty acids are best suited to your skin type. This should help you find your perfect facial oil. Below I have listed 5 of our favourite facial oils to give you some inspiration!

It is said to be balancing meaning your skin will produce the optimum level of oil for dewy, fresh skin.

Organic Hemp Seed Oil

Hemp Seed Oil is rapidly growing in popularity in skincare at the moment. It has a comedogenicity rating of 0 meaning that is doesn’t block your pores. It is heralded as a skincare saviour because it works in sync with your skin, aids water retention and helps balances oil production.

Organic Sweet Almond Oil

Sweet Almond is a very common oil and is frequently used in massage. We think it is so underrated as a facial oil. It's really fast absorbing and light weight and penetrates the skin, delivering those vital fatty acids where they are needed most.
