Castor Oil is one of our favourite products. It's extremely versatile and has so many different uses. But what exactly is Castor and how can you incorporate it into your beauty routine?

Castor Oil is a vegetable oil that is extracted by cold pressing the beans or seeds of the castor plant, Ricinus Communis, if you want to be fancy!

It’s an incredibly, rich, thick textured oil, almost a honey like consistency. It is made up of a monounsaturated Omega 9 fatty acid called Ricinoleic Acid which makes up around 90% of the oil. It’s this unique composition that makes castor the super versatile oil we all love.

Castor is an incredibly popular ingredient in many skincare products. Like many plant oils, Castor is super moisturising and nourishing for skin.

Castor is useful for preventing water loss from the skin which causes dryness and flakiness. It creates a barrier on the skin locking in moisture.

Castor has powerful hair strengthening and nourishing properties. It smooths, and conditions as well as promoting gloss and shine.

Castor Oil

To help grow beautiful, full lashes and brows. Applying a little castor oil to your lashes and brows before you go to bed can help promote healthy growth and strength, reducing loss and making them appear thicker and fuller.
Locks in moisture, strengthens and boosts shine of your hair. By applying a castor oil hair mask once a week, you can grow luscious, glossy and healthy hair.
Tame frizz and flyaways. As castor is very thick, you only need the smallest amount. You can smooth away any frizz from the ends of your hair and smooth out your hairline.
Smooths and softens the skin. Castor is said to be beneficial to your skin, softening and smoothing out your complexion. It's pretty thick so you can combine it with a lighter oil if you want to apply it on your face.
Soothe and moisture a flaky scalp. In the same way it hydrates and soothes extremely dry skin, castor does the same for your scalp. You can apply it directly to your scalp using a nozzle bottle, massage in and leave for at least half an hour before washing out.
Intensively rehydrate dry, flaky skin. Castor oil is perfect for targeting those problematic dry patches. It’s super moisturising and helps to lock in moisture preventing further dehydration of the skin.
Cleanse and remove make up. Castor is an amazing cleansing oil, it literally melts away, dirt, grime and make up. Apply a small amount of oil to your skin then remove with a muslin cloth soaked in warm water to remove the oil. It will leave behind a light layer of oil to moisturise and protect the skin from water loss.
Condition, soothe and soften sore cuticles. Massage a drop of oil into the skin around your nails.
Strengthen and nourish your nails. Apply some castor oil to your nails using a clean nail polish brush to promote healthy growth and strength.
Provide a glossy sheen in cosmetics that require a shine like lip balms. Castor is a perfect ingredient for DIY beauty products. It works well in cleansing products, facial serums and products that require a natural shine like lip balms and gloss.
